TALES FROM THE OFFICE
03.24.2000

It usually is only a matter of time until an employee decides that they have enough seniority to get away with showing up late, telling the VP of some division that they're full of it, or sometimes not even showing up at all. It took me four weeks.

This is, after all, the fast, ever changing landscape of the "Internet Economey" and an employee who has survived four weeks has almost a much time under their belt as the CEO.

Truth be told, I'm a good employee. I get stuff done, I have a vague attitude of respect for those above me, and I share my ideas before putting them to work on my personal web page for personal gain. What went wrong? A stretch of 9 o'clock meetings.

After being forced into attending a daily 9 o'clock meeting every day, I lost every need to show up on time. When my new found desire to be fired is added on top of that, my average entry time to the office quickly became 10 or 10:30, and who was going to say anything? Really? With tech people in as much demand as they are, who's really in charge?

I suppose the moral to all of this is, don't let them push you around because you get a lousy pay check. It's not worth it and you know you'd much rather sleep in anyway.
