Dark Matter

Dark Matter was a book listened to during the pandemic while painting a whole bunch of miniatures. It’s a mind-bending little story about a man pulled out of his own universe and forced to walk a dark corridor of alternative universes in the hope he might find his way back to the one thing that made his life worth living: his family.

We were excited to take a look at this when it was announced that a second season was coming because the original source had been the book and the first season seemed to have exhausted all of the material. But, since the show was written and produced by the author himself, Black Crouch, it seemed to pose an interesting question: can you start a story in one medium and finish it in another. This was something that seemed with exploring and, hopefully, this series might provide a little insight into it for others as well.

Dark Matter: Introduction

We kick off our Dark Matter series with a discussion of what we’re even trying to accomplish by talking about a small streaming-show coming back for its second season.

Dark Matter: The Novel

A look at the book the TV show was based on, the source material for it all.

Dark Matter: Season One

Without reference the book, we review the first season of Dark Matter as a TV show. A TV show that, as far as anyone knew, was going to be a limited series because the book material was exhausted.

Dark Matter: Book vs Show

With the book reviewed and the TV show watched, let’s compare and contrast what makes them two different beasts. It’s a genuinely deep dive into the way a story can be told differently based on the medium in which it was created.

Dark Matter is Back

The first episode of Season Two has aired. We look at what it seems to want to do and where we expect it to go throughout the season. Maybe…?

Dark Matter: Mid-Season

We’re half-way through Season Two and, boy-howdy, has this show handed us left turn after unexpected left turn, including one of the more touching episodes of television perhaps… ever?
