AI Brings The Magic

You want a comic book look?

Say what you want about AI… and a lot of people have opinions but, hot damn, can it do some cool stuff.

(Shhh… can you keep a secret? The theme to this website was built by Claude in a marathon coding session.)

Yeah, you can say what you want about AI but you can’t deny the utility. For instance, look at the following…

Two of these images are Escher gang sisters I painted up. I’m actually rather proud of them, if I’m honest. Before getting into Necromunda, I’d never painted any faces before as I was a Blood Bowl player and orc faces… well… they’re not real faces, if you know what I mean. So I was happy with the expression I was able to get out of these.

Then I fed them into GPT Image 2 with the prompt “Create a comic book-like version of this image with thick black stroke lines and strong color saturation, leaning toward the darker side, as if it was a crime comic.”

Prompt: Create a comic book-like version of this image with thick black stroke lines and strong color saturation, leaning toward the darker side, as if it was a crime comic.

I was going for kind of a Sean Phillips look, for those who know Criminal. And… honestly… I don’t think it did a terrible job! Plus, it captured the girls’ expressions perfectly (and the glow of my plasma weapon).

There’s an argument made that I’ve heard a lot: By using AI you’re taking work away from real artists… But, in your heart of heart, you know that’s not true. The fact is, I was never going to pay an artist to do an artistic representation of my minis. So there’s no lost work here. There’s just additional cool.

And I think that’s just… well… cool! I’m definitely going to post more of these in the future, since I’ve been using them as gang images for my gangs in MundaManager.
